Saudi Envoy visits SPAPEV Office, appreciates reconstruction work

Islamabad,   Mar 29th, 2010: Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan H.E Abdul Aziz Al-Ghadeer visited the Saudi Public Assistance for Pakistan Earthquake Victims' office and appreciated the work of the Organization's relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction projects being carried out in quake-hit areas of Azad Jammu Kashmir and North West Frontier Province of Pakistan.

He expressed his heartfelt pleasure over the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts initiated by SPAPEV to help improve the infrastructure which was damaged and destroyed in the October 8, 2005 Earthquake.

The Ambassador said that his office would remain open for the SPAPEV in any help needed for the completion of the rehabilitation and reconstruction projects.

The Ambassador said that the

steps taken by the Saudis for bringing the life of the people back to normal suffered due to the tremor of 7.6 magnitude, would strengthen its relations with Pakistan in every passing moment.


Earlier, the Regional Director, Dr. Khalid M. Al-Othmani, briefed the guest about the Organization operational activities launched to mitigate the sufferings of the survivors of the Earthquake.

He said

So far, SPAPEV had done a lot of work launched purely on humanitarian grounds following the orders of the Custodian of two Holy Mosques.


He said the funds collected from the Saudi people are being utilized transparently in the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction projects carried out in quake-stricken areas of Pakistan.

He informed that the work will continue till the complete rehabilitation of the earthquake-affected people.

He further stated that the

SPAPEV had distributed a huge quantity of relief goods including thousands of blankets, quilts, food packets, tons of dates, clothes, medicine, G-I-Sheets, besides helping Organizations like ERRA, PRCS, WFP, UNICEF, NVM, and others relief and rehabilitation organizations.


He told the visiting guests about the main projects which have been completed in the quake-hit areas include 4000 houses at Balakot, 3000 for Muzaffarabad, and 1000 for Bagh families displaced by the Earthquake, 7-Basic Health Units, equipped with all essential facilities built in Muzaffarabad, Abbottabad and Balakot areas, while the project of 28 schools including five Govt. Secondary and Higher educational institutions both for Girls and Boys were also the part of these projects.

Briefing about the future projects, the Regional Director said that the survey teams have submitted their report to the Office and soon, the project of state-of-the-art Mosques buildings will be launched for the masses of these areas.

Later, a souvenir and other special gifts were presented to Ambassador of Saudi Arabia by the Regional Director, Dr. Khalid M.Al-Othmani.

Abduallah Madooj, Bandar Qublan Al-Ajmi, Media Director Abdullah Al-Barak and many other prominent personalities were also present on the occasion.
